Periodontology

Periodontology is a branch of dentistry which deals with the treatment of supportive t

ooth tissue, the so-called periodontium (gums, bone, cement and periodontal ligament). The most common oral cavity disease in most people, after cavity, is the periodontal inflammation.
It begins as gingivitis. i.e. gum inflammation. It is caused by soft (plaque) and hard deposits (calculus) on teeth containing bacteria, which cause inflammations. Inflamed gums are swollen, painful and bleeding during brushing. If it is not treated, it progresses into periodontitis.

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammation of deeper structures surrounding the tooth (bone and fiber connecting the tooth and bone). By removing these structures, pockets are created which eventually become deeper and ultimately lead to tooth decay and loss.

In our practice, we deal with periodontitis despite its aggressiveness. Initial periodontal therapy involves thorough cleaning of hard (dental calculus) and soft (dental plaque) dental deposits using the Air-Flow Master Piezon.
