Implantology

General information on dental implants

Dental implants are titanium screws which are incorporated into the bone and represent a replacement for the root of the missing tooth. Titanium is used due to its biological neutrality, which is very important in order for the bone tissue to accept an incorporated foreign body. A titanium upgrade is placed on the implant (recently more often zirconium is placed) which serves as a link between the implant and the prosthetic replacement. The implant has the role of a crown carrier if one tooth is missing, or the role of a bridge if a large number of teeth are missing. Patients with anodontia often experience problems with wearing complete dentures. Dental implants are extremely convenient in those cases because they are used for anchoring (fixing) the dentures, which makes wearing the dentures, especially the lower one, more stable and enhances the quality of chewing.
